Epithalon
research guide

Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modeled on a component of a bovine pineal gland extract. Laboratory studies report geroprotective, antioxidant, and telomerase-related effects in cell and animal models, including work showing increased telomere length in human cell lines through telomerase upregulation. The sources reviewed did not include a randomized controlled human clinical trial of Epithalon; most human-relevant claims trace back to older Russian research programs and newer in vitro cell-line work.

01 · Start with identity

What is Epithalon?

Epithalon is a small synthetic tetrapeptide distinct from Epithalamin, the original bovine pineal extract it was designed to model; studies of the extract and of the synthetic peptide are not automatically interchangeable. A research-grade vial sold today is the synthetic tetrapeptide, not a pineal gland extract product.

What the studies reported

01

Telomerase upregulation shown in human cell lines

A study reported that Epitalon increased telomere length in human cell lines through telomerase upregulation or alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) activity, providing a cell-based mechanistic link to the peptide's proposed anti-aging effects. [1]

02

Broad geroprotective profile described across two decades of study

A 2025 overview summarizing roughly 25 years of in vitro, in vivo, and in silico research describes antioxidant, neuroprotective, and antimutagenic effects attributed to Epithalon, framing it as a geroprotective and neuroendocrine-active compound based on that body of preclinical work. [2]

03

Wound healing effect shown in a diabetic retinopathy cell model

An in vitro model of diabetic retinopathy found that the antioxidant tetrapeptide Epitalon enhanced delayed wound healing associated with high-glucose conditions, a laboratory finding relevant to diabetic complications research rather than a demonstrated clinical treatment effect. [3]

03 · Numbers in context

What does dosing evidence actually support?

No randomized controlled human clinical trial of Epithalon dosing was located in the sources reviewed. The literature located is preclinical (cell line and animal studies) or narrative review summarizing that preclinical base; older Russian clinical program results referenced in secondary literature were not independently verified as primary trial data here. No validated human dosing protocol was found in the sources reviewed.

A study dose is not a personal dose. Population, route, formulation and supervision are part of the result. Online community schedules are not treated here as established clinical protocols.

04 · Safety and limits

What not to overlook

  • No human randomized trial was identified in the sources reviewed; claims of anti-aging or telomere benefit in people are not established by the evidence found.
  • Cell-line telomerase findings do not by themselves demonstrate whole-organism aging benefits.
  • The diabetic retinopathy finding was an in vitro wound-healing model, not a clinical eye-disease treatment result.
  • Older Epithalon/Epithalamin clinical claims circulating online were not verified against primary trial data in this review.

05 · Product distinctions

Names are not interchangeable

Sold as a lyophilized synthetic tetrapeptide powder in single-compound research vials; this is distinct from the historical bovine pineal extract (Epithalamin) referenced in the compound's origin, and no blend ratio applies to single-component vials. Purity and identity claims on any vendor label are not independently verified here.

06 · Handling and storage

Follow validated product instructions

A single water volume, refrigerator temperature or expiry window cannot be assumed for every compound and formulation. Use the exact manufacturer documentation and a validated laboratory procedure. If stability, solvent compatibility or microbiological quality is not documented, those properties remain unverified.

Refrigeration, clear appearance and bacteriostatic water do not make an unverified research product suitable for injection. This guide does not provide a mixing or administration procedure.

The existing concentration calculator checks arithmetic only. It cannot choose a safe dose or establish compatibility, sterility or shelf life.

Questions still worth asking

What remains unresolved?

  • Would a placebo-controlled human trial confirm the telomerase and antioxidant effects seen in cell and animal models?
  • Does the wound-healing effect observed in a diabetic retinopathy cell model translate to any measurable benefit in a living organism?
