Selank
research guide

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of tuftsin, studied in Russia primarily as an anxiolytic. An older comparative clinical study reported anxiolytic effects similar to a benzodiazepine comparator in patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia. More recent human work has examined its effects on brain functional connectivity, while animal studies describe effects on stress and withdrawal-related behavior. Independent replication outside this research tradition is limited in the sources reviewed.

01 · Start with identity

What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic peptide analogue of tuftsin, an endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide, extended with additional amino acids; it is not the same molecule as tuftsin itself, and findings for one should not be assumed to apply directly to the other.

Also searched as: Tuftsin analogue peptide

What the studies reported

01

Comparative clinical study in generalized anxiety disorder

A study of 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia compared Selank (30 patients) to medazepam (32 patients) using standardized psychometric scales, reporting similar anxiolytic effects between groups along with additional antiasthenic and psychostimulant effects attributed to Selank, and correlating enkephalin activity with disease measures. [1]

02

Functional connectivity changes seen in healthy adults

A functional connectomic study in 52 healthy participants examined effects of Selank and the related peptide Semax on whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity involving the amygdala and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, regions relevant to anxiety and executive function. [2]

03

Animal study describes effect on opioid withdrawal

In rats, a single intraperitoneal dose of Selank (0.3 mg/kg) reduced the total index of naloxone-precipitated morphine withdrawal syndrome by 39.6 percent and significantly attenuated convulsive reactions, ptosis, and posture disorders compared to control, though it was slightly less potent than diazepam on some measures. [3]

03 · Numbers in context

What does dosing evidence actually support?

The generalized anxiety disorder study compared Selank against medazepam in a defined patient population using standardized psychiatric rating scales, but this describes that specific study's design and population, not a general dosing recommendation. Rodent studies used doses such as 0.3 mg/kg administered intraperitoneally for specific withdrawal or memory endpoints; these are experimental animal doses and are not directly convertible to a human protocol. No broadly validated human dosing standard beyond the original comparative trial was found in the sources reviewed.

A study dose is not a personal dose. Population, route, formulation and supervision are part of the result. Online community schedules are not treated here as established clinical protocols.

04 · Safety and limits

What not to overlook

  • The primary human trial located is decades old, from a specific research tradition, and does not appear to have broad independent replication in the sources reviewed.
  • Most mechanistic and behavioral detail comes from rodent studies whose doses do not transfer to human use.
  • Selank is an analogue of tuftsin but is not identical to it, and effects should not be assumed interchangeable between the two.
  • Functional connectivity changes in healthy volunteers are not the same as demonstrated clinical benefit for an anxiety disorder.

05 · Product distinctions

Names are not interchangeable

Sold as a lyophilized synthetic peptide powder in single-compound vials, as well as in combination nasal spray products with other peptides such as DSIP or Semax. Any combination product's ratio of each peptide is a separate formulation question from the single-compound research literature cited here, and blend-specific human evidence was not identified.

06 · Handling and storage

Follow validated product instructions

A single water volume, refrigerator temperature or expiry window cannot be assumed for every compound and formulation. Use the exact manufacturer documentation and a validated laboratory procedure. If stability, solvent compatibility or microbiological quality is not documented, those properties remain unverified.

Refrigeration, clear appearance and bacteriostatic water do not make an unverified research product suitable for injection. This guide does not provide a mixing or administration procedure.

The existing concentration calculator checks arithmetic only. It cannot choose a safe dose or establish compatibility, sterility or shelf life.

Questions still worth asking

What remains unresolved?

  • Would a modern, larger randomized controlled trial confirm the anxiolytic effects reported in the original generalized anxiety disorder comparison study?
  • Do the functional connectivity changes observed in healthy volunteers correspond to any measurable clinical or cognitive outcome?
